Ladies I don't know how you feel about Barbie but she is one of the reason I became a stylist. A tom-boy as a child I would never let my god-brothers see me playing with my Barbies. I would make clothes for them and make intricate houses made of shoe boxes. But when I got my first black Barbie I fell in love, so much that I was a black Barbie for Halloween three years straight. As you can see I have always been in love with Barbie. I am so proud to see a spread dedicated solely to black Barbie and black models, featured in the spread will be Iman, Liya Kebede, Sessilee Lopez, Naomi Campbell, and Jourdon Dunn. The first black doll from Barbie was introduced in 1967, as a friend of Barbie called Francie, followed by the first "Black Barbie" doll, introduced in 1980. The trend continues this autumn with the launch of a collection of black Barbie dolls, called the So In Style dolls; which have been designed with more authentic-looking black features, including a new facial sculpt that has fuller lips, a wider nose, more distinctive cheek bones and curlier hair. Franca Sozzani, editor in chief of Italian Vogue used the spread to send a message to fashion world, diversity is key for the industry we love so much to strive. She had this to say about the spread "Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie," Sozzani said. Lady Eloise hearts Italian Vogue!!!!
